On July 30, the opening ceremony of the Nankai University and Sunwoda Advanced Battery Joint Laboratory was held in Tianjin and Shenzhen in the form of video connection. Chen Jun, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, vice president of Nankai University, director of Tianjin New Energy Battery Talent Innovation and Entrepreneurship Alliance, Chen Dongjie, director of the Organization Department of Nankai District Committee, Xiao Shuhu, director of the Collaborative Innovation Office of the Nankai District Government, director of the Nankai Science and Technology Bureau, Cheng Fangyi, deputy dean of the School of Chemistry of Nankai University, Liu Yunhong, director of the Shenzhen Guangming District Science and Technology Innovation Bureau, and Wang Mingwang, the founder of Sunwoda, jointly unveiled the joint laboratory. Liang Rui, vice president of Sunwoda, presided over the opening ceremony.
In March 2019, Sunwoda and Nankai University jointly established the "Academician Workstation" of Chen Jun's team to jointly research key materials and technologies such as new lithium-sulfur, sodium-ion, and solid-state batteries. Based on the Tianjin New Energy Battery Talent Innovation and Entrepreneurship Alliance, the Advanced Battery Joint Laboratory will focus on the core materials and technologies of sodium-ion batteries to develop high-capacity layered oxide cathode materials, long-life polyanionic cathode materials, low-cost carbon-based materials and advanced electrolyte, and finally form an electrochemical energy storage system with excellent performance. In addition, the two parties will also jointly develop metal-air batteries and solid-state lithium metal batteries for next-generation power batteries.
